kannafoot > February 16, 2009Song SparrowI went to Sachuest Point today in an attempt to photograph the Harlequin Ducks wintering here from the Arctic. Since you're looking at a photograph of a song sparrow, you may safely assume that the ducks did not put in an appearance. This is my third trip to Sachuest for the ducks and so far they remain in the realm of mythology. Fortunately, this song sparrow hung around long enough for a few photos.Sachuest Point National Wildlife RefugeMiddletown, Rhode Island
kannafoot > July 9, 2009Flying Fish I've been waiting for an opportunity to photograph this cupola over Whole Foods. The dramatic sky in the background coupled with some HDR processing made today the perfect time for the shot. Whole FoodsCranston, Rhode Island
kannafoot > March 16, 200918th Century Mill ComplexThis is the John Hunt House and Mill, located on the East Providence and Seekonk line. The house was built in 1850, and its location makes it somewhat unique. Over the years, this property has been under the jurisdiction of the British Crown, Rehoboth, MA, Seekonk, MA, and East Providence, RI. While there have been mills on this property since the 1640s, the one in the background actually dates to the late 1800s.The dynamic range of the image was enhanced by a new plug-in I found for Photoshop Elements called Redynamix. The interface is extremely simple and it dramatically transforms the dynamic range of a single image as opposed to requiring multiple images like most HDR software. Expect to see much more done with this add-on since I really like the dynamic range effect it produces.John Hunt HouseEast Providence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > February 20, 2009An Eye Towards the HeavensThe historic Ladd Observatory in Providence opened in 1891. It's primary mission at the time was solar and transit observations. The observatory, under the direction of Brown University's Astronomy Department, is still in use today.Ladd ObservatoryProvidence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 6, 2009Tri PolesThe forecast was for rain all afternoon today, so I took advantage of the dry morning commute and stopped at India Point Park on my way to work. There are a lot of nice photo opportunities there including these three pilings near the shore.India Point ParkProvidence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > January 1, 2009Fresh Blanket of SnowWe received about 4 inches of snow to celebrate New Year's Eve. This morning I went to Lincoln Woods State Park to find some nice photos of the fresh snow. These birch trees stood out along the path to the beach. The darkened effects and high contrast were rendered in FDRTools Basic v2.2 with the finishing touches provided by Photoshop Elements v5.0.Lincoln Woods State ParkLincoln, Rhode Island
kannafoot > January 08, 2009Don't Lean on MeToday saw a trip back to the Waterfront. There's something about old pier pilings that catch my eye and I just can't resist photographing them. There was some nice golden light hitting I-195 in the background. Trust me, the bridge just doesn't look that good during rush hour traffic!John L. Lewis Waterfront ParkEast Providence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > January 02, 2009Shabby BarnI spotted this barn in desperate need of repairs and thought it would make an interesting subject. Pulling the hidden colors out of the fence and the sides of the barn added to the decaying charm. I was hoping for a bit more color in the snow, but it just wasn't to be.Warwick, Rhode Island
kannafoot > February 13, 2009Vampire CatA friend of mine volunteers at the Bristol Animal Shelter and we had to stop by there this evening. This is one of the cats delivered to the shelter. I managed to catch him mid-yawn and stretch. He has a pretty nasty case of pink eye, but there's certainly nothing wrong with those fangs!Bristol Animal ShelterBristol, Rhode Island
