kannafoot > January 22, 2009ProcrastinationOkay, I confess... This is a "safety shot". I ended up in non-stop meetings today and wasn't able to get out at lunch for a photo. On my way home I spotted this house that still had Christmas wreaths up in the windows and decided it would make a suitable enough subject. There's certainly nothing striking about the photo, but it does give me the opportunity to comment on the odd practice around here of leaving Christmas decorations up until, well, next Christmas!Providence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > January 30, 2009Clear the Runway!I stopped over at Sabin Point at lunch today and there were a handful of ring-billed gulls playing a fun game of musical pilings on the docks here. kannafoot > January 31, 2009Stone-EnderThis historic home is the Eleazer Arnold House, built in 1693 for - you guessed it - Eleazer Arnold. It's located in the Great Road Historic District near the Lincoln and Cumberland line. The house is known as a "stone-ender" since the entire chimney side of the house is made of stone. kannafoot > April 14, 2009Mill HistoryThis worn building in the historic village of Slatersville was built in 1897 and served as the home of the Union Grange Patrons of Husbandry from 1913 until 1994. kannafoot > January 19, 2009Still WatersI went out to Little Compton today to photograph the Sakonnet Point Light House. The sky and water were both an ugly gray monochrome and I really wasn't sure I'd be pleased with the results. On my way back I spotted this long dock sticking out from the Sakonnet Yacht Club pointing across the inlet in Rhode Island Sound to yet another private yacht club near the Point. The water was perfectly calm and a very nice deep shade of blue, so I opted to take it as a "safety shot". It was a good plan. The lighthouse was indeed rather blah, and I fell in love with the blue tones in this photograph. Expect to see a lot more from Tiverton and Little Compton as the year progresses. There were dozens of very interesting photo subjects along scenic Route 77, so I'll be visiting that area often.Sakonnet Point Yachting ClubLittle Compton, Rhode Island

I stopped at this small pullout along Veteran's Parkway to photograph the setting sun across Watchamocket Cove. The line of snow in the distance is the East Bay Bike Path, part of the national Rails to Trails program. Just beyond the bike path across the Seekonk River is the Port of Providence. kannafoot > January 06, 2009A Fixer-UpperIt doesn't look like this shell of a boat will be sailing anyplace soon. I stopped at the Waterfront Park this afternoon on my way home from work and spotted this gem lying half-submerged in the river. The bridge in the background is I-195 connecting Providence to East Providence. That bridge is extremely photogenic at night, so there will be several shots to that effect later this year. Industrial Sunset

This beautiful sunset managed to coincide perfectly with my commute home from work today. I stopped at this small pullout along Veteran's Parkway to photograph the setting sun across Watchamocket Cove. The line of snow in the distance is the East Bay Bike Path, part of the national Rails to Trails program. Just beyond the bike path across the Seekonk River is the Port of Providence. I thought this foreground tree would make a great silhouette against the setting sun.
