kannafoot > January 18, 2009Glacial BoulderOkay, I'm officially ready for spring. We received some more snow overnight and this morning. At once point it was snowing to the rate of 2 inches per hour. To capture the "beauty" of this fresh snowfall, I headed to Lincoln Woods State Park. This huge glacial boulder was covered in the white stuff and thought it would make a nice subject for today. You'll notice that the boulder is split in half. That is the result of an earthquake that struck this area sometime after the end of the last glacial age (about 10,000 years ago in this area.)Lincoln Woods State ParkLincoln, Rhode Island
kannafoot > January 23, 2009Lions and Tigers and... Cats? This fierce kitty belongs to a friend of mine. Due to a bit of an issue with marking territory, he's currently in kitty jail. As you can see, he's not overly thrilled with having his mug shot taken.Bristol, Rhode Island
kannafoot > January 10, 2009Smith-Appleby House BarnThe exact date of this barn in unknown, although the adjoining house was built in 1696. The barn likely dates to the 1700s. I love historic homes and buildings like this so expect to see more of them in future posts. As for today, it was a great opportunity to photograph the rare blue skies in RI before tonight's projected 10-inches of snow.Smithfield, Rhode Island
kannafoot > May 12, 2009Ready for WorkThese three tugboats were docked at India Point today. They are typically used to guide large freighters into the Port of Providence. This port area has surged in the last couple of years and is now quite active. I took this shot from a new vantage point directly under the I-Way and right next to the Hurricane Barrier. This spot didn't even exist six months ago.India PointProvidence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > January 13, 2009Antique ClockIt was back to the Louf Carousel at Crescent Park for today's photo. There are a number of these antique sidewalk clocks scattered around the state and I find them irresistible. In this case, I like the way the clock lines up with the trees in the background, forming a nice pointer to the carousel itself.Crescent ParkEast Providence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > March 8, 2009Little Red SchoolhouseThis is the Forestdale School in North Smithfield, Rhode Island. Built in 1870, the one-room school house served grades 1-8. As the community grew and other schools opened, this schoolhouse continued to serve as a kindergarten until 1974. Notice the two doors. The schoolhouse, despite having only one room, still required segregated entrances for boys and girls.Forestdale SchoolNorth Smithfield, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 4, 2009Dark ShadowsHere slept Barnabas Collins. Now Cecilia Hall, a dormitory on the campus of Salve Regina University, this beautiful building provided the exterior shots for the Gothic soap opera Dark Shadows. The series ran from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971.Cecilia HallNewport, Rhode Island
kannafoot > March 9, 2009Raindrop ReflectionsThe weather turned miserable today. It was a comfortable 60 degrees yesterday, but today it dropped to the low 30s and we had some snow squalls all afternoon. When I pulled into my driveway, I noticed a line of raindrops on the branches of my maple tree and decided they would make a nice macro shot. What surprised me in the post processing, though, were the reflections of the branches in the raindrops. That was a nice added surprise and it's what convinced me to keep this as the photo-a-day shot.Japanese Red MapleNorth Providence, Rhode Island
