kannafoot > May 31, 200917th Century ChimneyI returned to the Arnold House in Lincoln for today's photo. This huge whitewashed chimney was built in 1693. The house is a stone-ender, so the chimney and fireplace take up one entire side of the structure.Arnold HouseLincoln, Rhode Island
kannafoot > May 29, 2009High Tech TransportThis wagon sits next to a quaint little cottage on my commute home from work every day. I finally stopped to grab a photo today. I didn't care for the color version - too much green - so opted to transform it into a black and white. It still needs some work, but the B&W definitely works with the subject.WagonEast Providence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > May 26, 2009District 6 SchoolhouseHere's another surviving one-room schoolhouse in Rhode Island. This one was in use from 1850 to 1874 and now serves as a Girl Scout meeting hall. It's the oldest schoolhouse in Riverside, one of the original villages in East Providence. As with the other one room schoolhouses depicted in this gallery, this one also has the two gender segregated entrances. Of course, the handicap ramps are a recent edition.East Providence Scout HouseEast Providence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 17, 2009Clean SlateThis is the roof of the same blacksmith shop I shot yesterday. I decided to head back there today because I couldn't resist getting a shot of that nicely preserved slate roof coupled with an old brick chimney and wooden cupola.BlacksmithLincoln, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 16, 2009Textured ReflectionsHere's an interesting shot of some trees and bushes reflected in the window of an 18th century blacksmith shop on historic Great Road in Lincoln. The blacksmith shop is still in use as a cultural center depicting life in the 18th century.BlacksmithLincoln, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 15, 2009StuccoI don't have the exact date on this house, but the location and architecture is consistent with late 18th or early 19th century. There are two mill complexes within a quarter mile of the house, so it's highly likely that there's a connection.Farnum PikeSmithfield, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 14, 2009Mill HistoryThis worn building in the historic village of Slatersville was built in 1897 and served as the home of the Union Grange Patrons of Husbandry from 1913 until 1994. It is now owned by the North Smithfield Heritage Association. Hopefully, there's some budget to maintain this beautiful structure.Heritage HallNorth Smithfield, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 12, 2009Mill TownThis old mill is now owned by Benny's, a local hardware store. It serves as their warehouse. Originally, though, this was The Esmond Mill, built in 1906.The Esmond MillSmithfield, Rhode Island
