kannafoot > July 12, 2009Hidden ShackWell, actually not a shack at all, and certainly not hidden. There is this stone garage or storage building on Woodward Road. It looks like it may actually have been an outdoor market stall or something of that nature when this area was all farmland. This photo is from one overgrown side, but the building is quite long.North Providence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > May 1, 2009BoathouseI swung by the Hurricane Barrier this morning to see if there was a shot to be had and I noticed this boathouse sandwiched between the Point Street Bridge (in the background) and the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier out of the picture to the left. It's an odd place for a boathouse since it really is enclosed by the two structures. Still, it is quite photogenic.Providence RiverProvidence, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 14, 2009Mill HistoryThis worn building in the historic village of Slatersville was built in 1897 and served as the home of the Union Grange Patrons of Husbandry from 1913 until 1994. It is now owned by the North Smithfield Heritage Association. Hopefully, there's some budget to maintain this beautiful structure.Heritage HallNorth Smithfield, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 12, 2009Mill TownThis old mill is now owned by Benny's, a local hardware store. It serves as their warehouse. Originally, though, this was The Esmond Mill, built in 1906.The Esmond MillSmithfield, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 11, 2009Stone TexturesThis beautiful stone building was built in 1815 when the Industrial Revolution hit Smithfield, Rhode Island. The village of Esmond, which is part of Smithfield, was home to several large mills. Some of them are still in use as industrial buildings, while most of the others have been converted into condos. This stone building has seen it all, although it sits empty today.Smithfield, Rhode Island
kannafoot > April 7, 2009Holly Windstalker, DVMI couldn't resist this one. I played an online roleplaying game called Everquest for about 6 years. The server I played on was named Povar, so when I saw this animal hospital it just screamed for a photo. Now how many of you understood the title? You see, in Everquest there was a ranger that patrolled a newbie zone called Qeynos Hills. Her name was Holly Windstalker, and her mission was to defend all of the wolves and bears that made Qeynos Hills their home. The problem, of course, was that most level 4-7 characters that hunted in Qeynos Hills had to kill those wolves and bears. Holly would spot you attacking one of them and would immediately run over and kill you character. She was the bane of newbies everywhere. Talk to anyone that played Everquest and they'll have stories about how many times Holly killed them, followed by how they sought revenge on Holly when they'd advanced far enough to take her on themselves. I have some very fond memories of those days in Everquest, and this sign for Povar Animal Hospital makes me smile everytime I see it. I imagine this is where Holly took all those bears and wolves she saved...Everquest MemoriesEast Providence, Rhode Island
